In recent years Jamia Nagar in South East Delhi has come up as an exciting hub for the foodies. You name any Mughlai food (authentic or hybrid), and you will get it here. From different types of biryani to nihari, and from chiken korma, Changezi to lollipop and fry, you get them all at reasonable prices here. But, most food hubs in Delhi, whether it’s Chandni Chowk or Jamia, they come alive only at night. So we went scouting for some exciting breakfast options in Jamia. Here’s what we found.

Puri Chole: Aloo parantha and puri chole/aloo could perhaps be considered the state breakfast of Delhi. The puri chole that you get here is not very different from what you get in other places of Delhi, hot piping atta puris along with the thick yellow chick pea/mattar gravy. Some eateries, while serving, add a spoonful of curd in it, giving it a tangy taste. An, eatery called Three Sons, in the Batla House area of Jamai Nagar sells a plateful of Puri Chole for Rs 15 (5 pieces of puri, second helping of chole is allowed). Another eatery called, Doodh Bhawan sells it for Rs 10 (3 pieces of puri).
Parantha Kabab: Eateries selling Parantha-Kababs have been widely prevalent in Jamia Nagar, thin maida lachcha paranthas with shami kababs. The kababs are made of minced red meat and channa dal. Many also eat paranthas along with egg scramble and kababs. It’s a one hot combination. Most of these parantha-kabab corners have no names, paranthas and kababs are sold for Rs 5 a piece. There is a parntha-kabab corner opposite Delhi Nihari Hotel in Zakir Nagar.

Haleem Biryani: Most biryani counters in Jamia Nagar start functioning from the lunch hours and go on till dinner. But one particular, Md Riyaz sells Haleem Birayni at the Batla House Chowk in the morning. Hailing from Meerut, Riyaz has been selling red-meat Hamleem Biryani for around 20 years now. A plate costs Rs 30, 40 and 50.

Baked Sheermal and confectionaries: Jamia Nagar is a bakery hub; there are several small bakeries here that make rusk biscuit. The biggest and perhaps the most popular bakery in Jamia Nagar is Unique Bakery in Zakir Nagar. Early morning, Unique Bakery sells freshly made burgers, sandwich, sheermal, buns and cookies. Veg burger costs Rs 25, Chicken burger costs Rs 40 and sheermal costs Rs 30.

Paranthe Chole: The choles (yellow chick pea gravies) of Jamia are always special. The chick pea is made in milk, butter and garam masala. It is as good as your butter chicken. A special anda chole is also available. A plateful of chole is garnished with chopped onions and chillies. It is served with parantha. A plate of chole costs Rs 20. New Sameer restaurant in Zakir Nagar sells paranta chole in the morning.
Another popular breakfast dish in the winters in Jamia Nagar is a glass of hot milk with a layer of cream floating over it. It is had with bun or bread spread with butter.
